Dare2bDifferent Girls Weekend Retreat

Last weekend, I was asked by our friend Venisha to take photos one evening during the weekend retreat she was hosting for a group of girls from her church (including my niece!) The night I was there, the girls were getting ready for a dressy night where they were going out for a special dinner. They got dressed in their finest, and one of the girls was chosen at random to receive a hair and make-up makeover by a stylist Venisha brought in.  It was a lot of fun getting to spend a little time with these girls!

{Side Story} Wedding Photography

These are a bit overdue, as I’d meant to show these photos from Kat and Thomas’s wedding reception back when I made the original blog posts. I told Kat that I’d have to make a separate post just for these photos, because they cracked me up so much.

Let me set the scene for you:

I was at Kat and Thomas’s reception, documenting as much of its awesomeness as possible. Their little niece, E, approached me, wanting to me to take photos of her throwing flower petals in the air. She’d gone around and collected flower petals that’d fallen off people’s boutonnières and floral arrangements.

So she stood in front of me, and I’d count down “1, 2, 3!” so she’d know when to jump and throw the petals in the air (with much gusto!) I’d show her the photo on the back of the camera, and if  E wasn’t pleased with how well she could see the petals as they were mid-air, she’d pick them back up off the floor and repeat the process. It was amazing, because she initiated, orchestrated, and creatively directed her own little photo shoot, right there in the middle of her aunt and uncle’s wedding reception! It wasn’t long before her brother started trying to photo bomb the whole thing. Their cousin kept trying to pull him out of the way so E’s photos wouldn’t be ruined. Hijinks galore!

In the end, we did get a couple of photos that E felt satisfied with, plus ones where her brother was being a real pill!

{First Birthday} Nathan!!!

This little rascal smiled for this one because he was about to knock the chalk board over!

This is Nathan, and he just turned one!

His parents, Emily and Doug, asked me if I’d be the photographer to document baby’s first birthday party, and I happily obliged. I must say that it was a lot of fun! I spent my time at Nathan’s party snapping photos of him, his sisters, the other little ones who were there to celebrate, and the all important eating of the “smash cake!”

A child on a mission: put him down and he immediately tried to make his escape!

Nathan and his big sisters, Paisley and Lexie

The kids had such a good time!

Party favors – it was picnic themed

Tearing in to that smash cake!

Nathan with him Daddy and Mommy – believe it or not, this was actually taken AFTER the smash cake was demolished by the baby! They were very wise about letting him get messy and then cleaning him right up!

(I think I might have to sell this family a season pass for birthday party photos, since their family seems to be ever-growing! They just announced that baby #4 is due later this year!)
